BetaFPV Meteor75 Pro II vs the Original (and Every Other Whoop People Actually Fly)

BetaFPV replaced the whoop that a lot of people call their favorite. That takes some nerve.

The Meteor75 Pro has been the go-to 75mm whoop for a couple of years now. It's the drone people recommend when someone asks "what should I fly after my first one?" So when the Pro II showed up with a new canopy, new motors and a wider camera, the obvious question was whether it's actually better or just newer.

Short answer: it's better, but it's a different drone than the numbers make it look. Here's what actually changed, how it stacks up against the other whoops people are flying right now, and which one makes sense for you.

What changed from the original

The headline is the camera. The Pro II is built around the DJI O4 Wide air unit, which gives you a 159 degree field of view and 4K/60 recording. The original Meteor75 Pro was sold primarily as an analog quad, with a C03 camera and a 400mW 5.8GHz video transmitter, though an O4 version existed too. If you're coming from analog, the jump to digital is the part you'll actually notice, and it has nothing to do with how the drone flies.

The rest of the changes are quieter but they matter:

  • New canopy, soft mounted. The whole canopy now sits on four rubber grommets instead of being screwed down, and the camera no longer needs rubber bands to hold it in place. That soft mount is what kills the jello in your footage.
  • Different motors. The 2026 Freestyle 1102s run 21000KV, down from 22000KV on the original. Lower KV sounds like less power, but paired with the taller Gemfan 1811 props it pulls harder where it counts.
  • Bigger batteries. The battery slot was reshaped for LAVA II 1S packs up to 680mAh. The original was built around 450 to 580mAh.
  • It got heavier. 41.5g versus 30.5g for the analog original. That's the tradeoff for carrying a digital air unit.

About those flight times

This is the part nobody tells beginners, so we will.

Manufacturer flight times are measured hovering gently in still air. That is not how you're going to fly. Reviewers putting the Pro II through normal flying are landing around 3 to 3.5 minutes on 480mAh packs, 4 to 4.5 on 580s, and roughly 4.5 to 5 on the 680s. Fly it hard and you'll see less than that.

That's not a knock on this drone specifically. It's true of basically every whoop on the market, and it's the single biggest surprise for people coming from a toy drone. The real lesson is simple: buy more batteries than you think you need. Most whoop pilots carry eight to twelve packs for a session. That's exactly why every case we make is built around battery storage first.

How it compares to the rest of the field

The Meteor75 Pro II doesn't exist in a vacuum. Here's roughly where the popular whoops sit right now.

A few honest observations about that table:

The 65mm class is still where you should start. A Mobula6 or Meteor65 Pro is lighter, cheaper to crash, and safe to fly inside your house. Nobody regrets learning on a 65.

The jump from 65 to 75/80mm is bigger than 15mm sounds. You get real outdoor capability and wind tolerance, and you lose the ability to comfortably fly around your living room.

The Mobula8 and the Meteor75 Pro II are aimed at the same pilot but solve it differently. The Mobula8 can run 2S for more punch. The Meteor75 Pro II stays 1S but throws a much better camera at the problem. If footage is your goal, the BetaFPV wins. If you want the drone to feel fast, the 2S option is tempting.

The Pavo20 Pro isn't really in this conversation. At 100g plus and 3S or 4S, it's a cinewhoop. Different mission, different weight class, and you'll notice it the first time it hits something.

So which one should you buy?

Never flown FPV before? Get a 65mm on 1S. Mobula6 or Meteor65 Pro. Fly it indoors until you stop crashing into doorframes, then move up. Don't start with the Pro II, and definitely don't start with a $239 drone.

Already comfortable and want to fly outside? The Meteor75 Pro II is a genuinely great pick, especially if you already own DJI goggles. The O4 Wide footage is the reason to buy it.

Want the most fun per dollar? The PNP version of the Pro II is $79.99 without the air unit. If you've got a spare O4 or you're happy on analog, that's a lot of drone for the money.

Already own the original Meteor75 Pro and it flies fine? Honestly, keep flying it. The Pro II is an upgrade, not a replacement for something that isn't broken. Spend the money on batteries and a case instead.

One thing that applies no matter which you pick

Whoops are tough in the air and fragile in a backpack. The crashes almost never get them. Getting crushed under a water bottle, or rattling around loose with a dozen batteries, absolutely does.
